Wedding Cake Frequently Asked Questions

Custom designing wedding cakes brings us immense joy, and we’ve found that many people share similar inquiries about wedding cakes. To address your questions and concerns, we’ve put together this convenient FAQ. If you have further questions, please call us at (918) 300-4406!

  • Do I need to schedule an appointment for a wedding cake consultation?
Yes, all cake tastings and consultations are available by appointment only. We’re happy to accommodate in-person meetings or pick-up options. These appointments are free and are the best way to kick off your wedding cake or dessert order. Booking online is simple, allowing you to select a date and time that suits you best. Each appointment lasts 45 minutes, and we begin at the scheduled time, regardless of late arrivals. If you need extra time, a follow-up consultation can be scheduled for $25, which will be credited to your order if you book with us. Please avoid making phone calls, texting, or video conferencing during the tasting. We understand that you may want to discuss details with loved ones, but we aim to maximize your time and ensure we don’t interfere with the next appointment.
  • What occurs during a consultation and cake tasting?
During your appointment, you will sample three cake flavors, fillings, and buttercreams of your choice. We’ll discuss your style, personality, traditions, and vision for your special day. We will consider your budget for the cake design and collaborate with you to find the best options—be it classic, modern, eclectic, glamorous, or sleek and elegant. By the end of the consultation, you’ll gain a clear understanding of our pricing structure, a customized price quote, and included services. The quote will remain valid for 90 days.
  • Can I bring my children with me?
We adore children, but selecting a wedding cake can be more involved than you might expect. If possible, it’s best to arrange for small children to be cared for elsewhere.
  • Can I invite additional guests?
We kindly request that you do not bring extra guests without prior arrangements, nor children under 12 years old. Tastings and consultations are designed to cater to the couple with our full attention, free from distractions—it's all about you! More than three or four people can complicate the decision-making process. If you’d like your guest to sample with you, please purchase an additional cake tasting box for $25, which will be credited to your order once you book with us.
  • Are we obligated to book the cake during our consultation, or book with you?
No, you are not obligated to book with us, and no, you are not obligated to book with us during your initial consultation. You are welcome to book if you wish, but we want you to feel completely comfortable with your choice. Should you want to take some time to think it over, we’ll gladly provide a written estimate valid for 90 days. When you’re ready to finalize your contract, please call us at (918) 300-4406.
  • When should I book my wedding cake?
We prefer a minimum of three (3) months' notice for wedding cakes. However, I highly recommend booking as far in advance or as soon as you have your date confirmed. The wedding season runs from April to October, with peak demand in May, June, September, and October. Therefore, any price quote will be kept on file for three (3) months unless an order is placed during the consultation. To ensure high-quality service, I only accept a limited number of weddings and special events each week or weekend.
  • May I hold the date?
A non-refundable $100.00 retainer is necessary to reserve your event date if you are not placing a wedding cake order. This retainer will be applied towards the cake order if you choose to book with us. All dates are reserved on a first-come, first-paid basis. Until you’ve paid a retainer or deposit, your date remains available for other reservations. A signed contract and a deposit of 50% of the total order is due within 30 days of paying your retainer. The remaining balance is due 60 days before the wedding. After 30 days, unless a deposit or full payment accompanied by a signed contract is received, your retainer will be forfeited, and your date will no longer be guaranteed.
  • How much cake should I order?
First, determine if you will be serving your wedding cake as dessert. If so, you will need a piece for every guest, regardless of whether they eat cake or not, as most guests will take a slice home. We recommend ordering cake for 50% to 80% of your expected guest count. You will not have a final count until about one month to two weeks prior to your wedding date. However, as a guideline, you can estimate your actual count by deducting 20% from your total invitees. For example, if you invite 200 people: 200 x .20 = 40 (declines), leaving you with 160 servings needed. It's best to order only what you think you'll need. We can add a kitchen cake to your invoice to accommodate any guest overages, but we cannot reduce a cake structure once booked.
  • Is the top tier of the cake included in my servings?
Yes, you may serve all your cake. For orders over $500, we will provide a complimentary 6-inch tier for your one-year anniversary, made with the same flavor and filling as your wedding cake, and it will be fresh! Please contact us two weeks prior to your anniversary to arrange your cake. Should you decide to purchase a separate anniversary tier it’s $50.
  • Is there a minimum order for wedding cakes?
No, there is no minimum order; however, we do have limits based on delivery times and scheduling. Deliveries are managed based on our availability on your chosen day, so booking well in advance is advisable if you require delivery. All three-tier cakes or larger require delivery.
  • What if more guests attend my wedding than expected? Will I run out of cake?
Most couples finalize their guest count two weeks before their wedding. At that time, you should verify the number of servings your contracted wedding cake provides. If your guest count exceeds your cake servings, you’ll want to order “extra servings,” also known as a kitchen cake. This is a separate cake brought to the kitchen at your reception venue upon delivery. It will be made with the same flavors and fillings as your wedding cake, but it will not be decorated. Once cut and plated, your guests will not be able to differentiate between the displayed cake and the kitchen cake. Please ensure to order “extra servings” at least two weeks prior to your reception date.
  • Do you create fake cakes or “dummy cakes”?
There is much information available on wedding planning websites and in bridal magazines about saving money on weddings. We understand that weddings can be costly. However, there is a common misconception that Styrofoam cakes are cheaper to produce than real cakes. The true cost of a wedding cake is primarily based on the labor involved in decorating it. Whether the medium is cake or Styrofoam, the skill level of the decorator remains the same, and highly skilled decorators deserve appropriate compensation. Styrofoam can also be more challenging to work with. If you aim to save money, it’s best to opt for a simple design or a smaller cake with “extra servings.” If your budget is a significant concern, rest assured we’ll work with you to find an option that is both beautiful and reasonably priced.
  • Can I choose different cake and filling flavors for each tier?
Absolutely! You can select different flavors for each tier without any additional cost.
  • Are there different prices for any specific cake flavors or fillings?
Yes, our exclusive cake flavors, gluten-friendly, sugar-free, and vegan options come with an additional charge. Premium fillings, such as fresh strawberries or cheesecake, will also incur an extra fee. Fondant cakes are priced higher as well.
  • Can I have cheesecake as my wedding cake?
If you’re considering a traditional stacked wedding cake, please note that due to time and temperature controls, cheesecake shouldn’t be displayed for as long as a standard wedding cake (up to 6 hours) because of spoilage concerns. Additionally, cutting and presenting cheesecake can be challenging. If you love cheesecake, consider using cheesecake filling layers or serving some cheesecake “behind the scenes,” keeping it refrigerated until shortly before cutting to avoid spoilage.
  • Is it okay to display my cake outdoors?
We do not recommend displaying cakes outside. Cakes should be kept at an optimal room temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Besides the risk of buttercream melting (at temperatures above 80 degrees – in some instances), outdoor cakes can attract insects. If displaying outdoors is essential, we strongly recommend using fondant icing. Keep in mind that a tent outside in summer is still considered “outside,” even if air-conditioned.
  • Can I bring a picture of a cake I found elsewhere?
Certainly! However, I reserve the right to exercise artistic license to ensure the structural, visual, and creative integrity of a cake or dessert. Custom cakes are indeed works of art, and I won’t replicate another decorator's design. We are a bespoke cake designer, and due to copyright or trademark laws; the cakes will be as similar as possible. I will make every effort to match your requested design and colors, although exact matches may not always be feasible. Be aware that exposure to light can also alter colors.
  • Do you provide fresh flowers for the cake?
If you wish to use fresh flowers on your cake, you must source them from a reputable florist. Please understand that fresh flowers are not food products and may contain pesticides, insects, dirt, or other contaminants. You’ll need to bring the flowers to us the day before your wedding or have them ready at the cake table before our scheduled delivery. A nominal fee may apply for faux or silk flowers.
  • How do I make my cake payment?
We will generate a quote or an invoice for your payment. You have the option to place a date hold retainer or deposit. However, your date remains unreserved until you pay a retainer or deposit, making it available for other customers. A signed contract and a 50% deposit of the total order are due within 30 days of paying your retainer. The remaining balance is due 60 days before the wedding. After 30 days, unless a deposit or full payment with a signed contract is received, your retainer will be forfeited, and your date will no longer be guaranteed. We offer cashless transactions and accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit cards, all major credit cards upon request, as well as Zelle Pay, CashApp, Venmo, Affirm, or PayPal.
  • Do you rent cake stands?
Yes, we offer a variety of cake stand rentals starting at $40. A credit card is required to be kept on file until the rental is returned.
  • Can I make changes to my cake order?
Yes, changes are allowed up to six weeks before your date. However, there can be no changes in theme, color, or size reductions within six weeks of your pickup or delivery date. You may upgrade to a larger cake size, with the cost difference paid in full at the time of the request.
  • Do I need to have a cake tasting to book with you?
No, a cake tasting is recommended not mandatory. We appreciate your trust in our sophisticated flavors and understand you may have tasted our cakes before. If you feel comfortable booking without a tasting, please call us at (918) 300-4406 to place your order.
  • What do you recommend for a cost-effective budget?
Consider ordering a smaller show cake for photos, alongside an additional sheet cake for serving. This approach can reduce the average cost per serving from $5.00 for tiered cakes to $3.75 for sheet cakes.
